The Time Capsule
On December 31st 1999, as part of the millennium celebrations, a time capsule containing items pertinent to Devizes and Britain at the end of the twentieth century was placed under the head of the horse. There was a moving blessing, led by Reverend Brian Tigwell who called for a moments silence in honour of Keith Saunders. Keith had supervised the cutting of the horse and had died a few days earlier.
The pictures show Peter Greed, chairman of the Millennium White Horse project and Noel Woolrych, the mayor of Devizes watching the lid being fastened onto the time capsule, before it is slid into position, with Margaret Saunders, widow of Keith, assisting.
